How the calculation works
Subtract local sunrise from local sunset and divide that daylight interval into eight equal parts. Select the part assigned to the weekday. The clock time depends on the date and location: a fixed adjustment to a Delhi or Mumbai timetable is not a reliable substitute.

For example, sunrise at 6:20 AM and sunset at 6:00 PM give 700 minutes of daylight. One segment is 87 minutes 30 seconds. On Monday, the second segment would run from 7:47:30 AM to 9:15 AM. This is a worked example, not today's forecast.
Meaning and cultural context
Rahu Kaal combines Rahu with kaal, meaning time or a period in this context. In Hindu astrological traditions, Rahu is associated with the ascending lunar node. A lunar node is an intersection of orbital planes, not a physical planet.
Some people avoid beginning ceremonial activities during this period. Observance varies between households and traditions; IndiaTime does not prescribe it. Do not delay healthcare, emergency travel or essential responsibilities because of a traditional timing window.
The Gulika estimate uses the same eight-part daylight division with a different weekday sequence. Neither calculation establishes whether an event will succeed. Astronomical calculation and religious interpretation are distinct.

Questions about the timings
Is Rahu Kaal always 90 minutes?
No. It is 90 minutes only when sunrise-to-sunset lasts exactly 12 hours. Seasonal daylight changes affect both its start and its duration.
Is one timetable valid for every Indian city?
No. Sharing IST does not mean sharing sunrise. Choose the actual city; do not add a fixed number of minutes to another city's result.
Does this replace a Panchang?
No. This tool calculates one daylight interval. It does not supply tithi boundaries, nakshatra, local festival observance or a personalised ceremony recommendation.
