Sources and Methodology

IndiaTime explains civil time, calendars, scheduling and Indian timekeeping. This page describes what powers the tools, what the results mean and where their limits are.

Clocks and timezone conversions

Clocks start from your device's current time. Browser timezone data converts that instant into Asia/Kolkata or another selected city. The site does not synchronise your device or independently measure atomic time. An incorrect device clock produces an incorrect live display.

CSIR-NPL is India's official time reference. The IANA timezone database documents regional rules. Date-aware conversions use the selected instant so seasonal clock changes and previous-day results are not hidden by a fixed offset.

Sunrise and traditional timing

Sunrise, sunset and approximate lunar illumination use SunCalc 1.9.0 at the selected city-centre coordinates. The model does not account for your exact elevation, buildings or local horizon. Its moon-phase label is not a full Panchang.

The Rahu Kaal calculator divides calculated local daylight into eight parts and uses the published weekday sequence. Religious interpretation is separate from the calculation. A ritual observance may require a local almanac and a particular tradition; the tool does not provide personal advice or predict outcomes.

Festival and holiday records

The calendar contains selected records for 2026 and 2027, not every Indian state notification or community observance. Each record distinguishes a fixed date, a cross-checked reference, moon-sighting uncertainty or an unverified reference. Source links and regional notes accompany the list.

A festival is not automatically a bank closure, a school holiday or an exchange holiday. A Department of Posts holiday list supports that department's schedule, not a universal closure rule. Moon-sighting dates can change with local announcements. Calendar exports include only records labelled fixed-date or cross-checked.

Market and bank schedules

The NSE session guide and NYSE trading calendar are primary references for their markets. Normal hours do not confirm live trading status. Exchange circulars, special sessions, segment rules and holidays take precedence.

The bank guide separates branch closures from electronic services. Check the institution's own notice for a time-sensitive transaction.

History and heritage

Reference articles link to institutional sources such as UNESCO's Jaipur Jantar Mantar record and the Ujjain district observatory account. A source must support the specific claim: a heritage listing does not establish today's opening hours or a clock's operating condition.

Mathematical examples state their assumptions. Religious meanings, historical interpretations and present-day civil standards are kept distinct. We do not claim that an ancient astronomical meridian is India's current official timezone.
