Today’s Indian Market Schedule

Pre-open session

9:00 AM to 9:15 AM IST. Orders are collected and matched before normal trading begins. This window helps discover the opening price after overnight news, global cues and pre-market demand.

Regular trading

9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST. This is the main trading window for NSE and BSE equity cash markets. Most investors, traders and brokers refer to this as normal market hours.

Closing session

After 3:30 PM IST. Closing-price calculation and post-close activity may continue for a short period. Broker order types, auction sessions and special windows can vary by segment.

Global Stock Market Timings in IST

Useful for Indian investors

United States: NYSE and NASDAQ

The NYSE regular session is 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time: 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM IST the next day during EDT, or 8:00 PM to 2:30 AM IST the next day during EST. Holidays and early closes override this normal schedule. See date-aware India-US conversions.

United Kingdom: London Stock Exchange

The London market overlaps partly with the Indian afternoon. During GMT, London trading is roughly 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM IST. During British Summer Time, it usually becomes 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM IST.

Asia: Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore

Asian markets are active before and during the Indian market day. Indian traders often watch Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore futures for early risk appetite before NSE and BSE open.

UAE and Gulf markets

Dubai and Abu Dhabi market hours matter for NRIs, Gulf investors and India-linked businesses. Weekend rules may differ from India, so always check the exchange calendar before assuming a trading day.

How to Use Market Timing Information

For long-term investors

If you invest through SIPs, delivery trades or periodic rebalancing, exact minute-by-minute timing is less important than knowing whether the market is open, whether it is a holiday, and whether your broker will process orders today.

For intraday traders

The first 15 to 30 minutes after 9:15 AM can be volatile because overnight information is absorbed quickly. The last hour before 3:30 PM can also see position squaring, expiry activity and sharper moves.

For global stock investors

US and UK markets run outside normal Indian office hours. If you invest in international stocks, keep a personal routine for earnings releases, daylight saving shifts and broker settlement cutoffs.

Important Caveats

Market timings can change for special sessions, technical disruptions, national holidays, exchange holidays, settlement holidays and regulatory announcements. This page is designed as a practical time reference, not financial advice. For order placement, expiry, settlement, margin or holiday-sensitive decisions, always verify with your broker, NSE, BSE, MCX or the relevant official exchange calendar.

IndiaTime.co.in uses Indian Standard Time as the baseline. Since India does not observe daylight saving time, changes in the India-versus-world market overlap usually happen because the other country changes its clocks, not because IST changes.

Indian Market Day Checklist

Before 9:00 AM

Check global market direction, GIFT Nifty cues, major overnight news, RBI or government announcements, crude oil, currency movement and results declared after the previous close. This is also when many investors decide whether an order should be placed at market open or later in the day.

Between 9:15 AM and 10:00 AM

The first part of the session can absorb overnight information quickly. Spreads, volatility and price gaps may be higher than usual, especially after earnings, budget announcements, election news, global shocks or major central bank decisions.

After 2:30 PM

The last hour often reflects intraday position adjustment, institutional flows, expiry pressure and global cues from Europe. Traders should be careful about liquidity and risk, while investors may prefer planned limit orders instead of impulsive late-session decisions.

No. India remains on UTC+5:30 throughout the year. Daylight saving changes in the US, UK, Europe and Australia affect the conversion from those markets into IST.

Use the NSE segment timetable and the relevant exchange holiday notice. A normal-hours timetable is not a live open/closed feed. Bank holidays and exchange holidays are not interchangeable. Check the bank holiday guide and use the converter for overseas sessions.
